I wish I could disable the in-car navigation system altogether and test furter. Allowing the in-car navigation to then crash seems to allow CarPlay to resume as normal. CarPlay only seems to crash when using navigation apps. I HIGHLY SUSPECT that the in-car navigation garmin system which is running on Android is somehow interfering with the navigation apps that are running on your phone. The infotainment system home screen works again, and the CarPlay reconnects and tends to work without issue. It takes about 5 minutes of being frozen, but then the garmin unit will finally respond with a popup saying some android feature is unresponsive, and would I like to close the navigation? Once I say yes, the in-car nav dies. I open my "in-car navigation" which seems to now be malfunctioning after the apple CarPlay disconnects. I have found an interesting solution to resetting it when this happens. You'd think that there would be some problems with these other apps if there was a cabling issue. The system works perfectly fine for hours when using only Pocket Casts or Spotify or doing phone calls. I really doubt that it's the cable since these reboots only occur when a navigation app is actively navigating. I've only used high quality lightning cables, either the ones directly from the phone box from Apple or things like Anker Powerline+ braided cables. ![]() The next time I'm at the Honda dealer for service I'm going to ask to see if there are Android updates available for the head unit to see if that would help. ![]() Sometimes the voice prompts stop working and I'll have to unplug the cable from the phone and plug it back in to get the voice prompts working again. Google Maps will exit navigation and I have to click Go again, whereas Apple Maps will not exit navigation and will continue from where it left off, which is nice. It almost never crashes badly enough to where I have to turn the car off and back on. Start up Google Maps (or Apple) and hit that Go button and now it's just a matter of time until CarPlay will crash and restart. I can listen to music or podcasts for complete drives and it seems perfectly fine. If navigation isn't active, CarPlay does not crash. I have a 2017 Accord Hybrid Touring with the navigation head unit (dual screen) and an iPhone XS Max with iOS 14.2 and didn't notice any appreciable difference between this iOS version and earlier ones.ĬarPlay still crashes regularly for me, but only while a navigation app is actively running and giving voice guidance.
